What the Article requires
Article 11 requires providers to draw up technical documentation before placing the high-risk AI system on the market. The documentation must include everything in Annex IV — system description, design, components, training data, intended use, performance metrics, risk-management system, evaluation procedures, post-market monitoring plan. It must be kept up to date and made available to national competent authorities on request for ten years.
In engineering terms
The Annex IV format is the single biggest documentation discipline most enterprises don't have today. Most existing system documentation is fragmented across architecture decisions, runbooks and READMEs; restructuring it into the Annex IV format is largely translation work.
