Frequently asked questions
Is this checker a substitute for legal advice?
No. The checker walks through the Act's actual structure (scope, AI definition, Annex III, Article 25, GPAI provider status) but is intended as a directional starting point. For binding compliance decisions, consult an EU AI Act specialist law firm. MindMap can introduce qualified counsel on request.
What if I'm not sure whether my use case is in Annex III?
Choose 'Not sure' — the checker will route you to the more cautious path. The eight Annex III categories are: biometric ID, critical infrastructure, education, employment/HR screening, access to essential services (credit scoring, insurance), law enforcement, migration, justice. If your AI touches any of these even tangentially, treat it as high-risk until you can rule it out with a formal legal review.
Why does Article 25 matter so much?
Article 25 closes the escape hatch most enterprises think they have. Most enterprises think 'we just use AI, we don't provide it, so the lighter deployer obligations apply.' Article 25 triggers provider status if you make substantial modifications, rebrand the system, or repurpose it. Across MindMap's audits of regulated AI portfolios, 70% contain at least one Article 25 trigger.
What if my answer changes — can I re-run?
Yes. Hit 'Re-run the check' on the result page, or refresh. The tool runs entirely in your browser; nothing is logged or sent to a server.
